your song "Dream" publicly. The song, as sung by
Peabo Bryson, is contained on the CD Motion Picture
Soundtrack "Barney's Great Adventure". This one song

are a breath of fresh air for all children no matter

I
guess it's about time I signed in? :-) I was
webmastering a Vanilla Fudge site at the time Chuck
emailed me. He told me that someone (not a member)
on one of the Fudge albums, Renaissance, had gotten
credit for writing The Spell That Comes After. I
then got in touch with Essra first via email, and
then by phone. She impressed me so much that I
decided to offer to do this site for her.
Now, I'm happy to say we have a long distance
friendship. I'm hoping that will end very soon....
the long distance part I mean! I live in New Jersey
and of course, Essra is in Nashville. I'm hoping to
meet her for the first time when she visits north
this summer. Maybe I can even con her into singing a
tune or two at one of my gigs!? Oh, and I've _heard
the new CD... it's sensational! Stay tuned to the
site for a release announcement very soon! Essra,
it's an honor to do this site, and I only hope I can
maintain a class site for a class act. You're the
greatest! Rock and Roll! Love, Pete |

Well,
i think that in order to have meaningful access to
music such as essra's or that of the other greats,
one must have had to progress to a certain spiritual
level..if the abyss is too great, then there can be
no flow of energy..and in my case, i havent made any
spiritual progress in a long time, and if you dont
progress, you fall back..hope this clarifies my

Essra
Mohawk is a very talented songwriter and singer, no
question about that. A few of the records she made
during the late sixties to mid seventies may even be
regarded as obscure and forgotten classics; they are
that good. At the same time, she’s also one of those
numerous artists who once came close to making it,
but didn’t, and as a result she’s become a somewhat
jagged and bitter pill. She’d rather blame the
record companies, blame her musical peers who did
make it, blame her three ex-husbands - basically
blame everyone else except herself (Does heroin
addiction ring a bell?) - as the forces that
prevented her from becoming a star. Of course, now
she’s trying to get HER story out to the masses,
through a tell-all book (which probably less people
will buy than her records, which all sold terribly),
through insane pleas to anyone who’ll listen,
through bitter songs about money getting in the way
of love, and through bizarre chants. Too bad most of
the people she’s blaming for her failures (Zappa,
Nyro, et al) are not alive to defend themselves. |

Any chance of you making your CDs available in
stores? Lots of people are not comfortable ordering
products on line, as *secure* servers are really not
secure. Trust me on this. My credit card was
recently hit for a $100 order I did not make. |
|
|
8/3/1999 |
Pete Bremy, Webmaster |
http://rockersusa.com/EssraMohawk |
| |
On the
purchasing of Essra's music through the site - For
the most part, credit card purchases via secure
server are generally safe, but there can always be
unscrupulous individuals who would defraud the
public. This of course can be done via mediums other
than the web too, such as via phone or even in
person by stealing receipts. However, currently we
are not accepting credit card orders over the web.
Please check out the music page. Orders are placed
via US Mail only, and payment is made by check or
money order. By ordering Essra's CDs, cassettes, and
albums this way, you are dealing directly with Essra
through me. For security reasons, the PO box is
mine. I forward the orders to Essra and she
personally autographs and ships them. Checks and/or
money orders are made out to her. Of course, there
is a certain amount of trust needed in placing an
order via mail too, but at least the risk is limited
to the amount of the check or money order, not as in
offering a credit card number. I hope this
explanation is reassuring. **** Pete |

note is to the anonymous "hard-on" who seems to have
an axe to grind with you Essra.
It's just the facts man! You decide who's to blame.
We all have. Were you alive 20 or more ago? If you
were I bet your closet is as full as mine.
Fortunately Essra and a great deal of her
contemporaries have shut those doors through good
fortune in enlightenment. Maybe you should find a
way to transfer your bitter energy to something
positive and creative. The world would thank you and
you might even get to enjoy some happiness yourself.

Ah!
Found you at last!
...been a rough 22 years for an Essra fan in the New
York area....last (and only) time I saw you was at
the Bottom Line in NYC right after the Private Stock
LP came out...it was snowing and you were opening
for David LaFlamme and there were about nine people
there.....you saw me taking pictures and FLASHED me,
you naughty girl....I was too paralyzed to take the
shot fast enough and consequently I only got a
picture of you grinning at me as you closed your
shirt back up.....so just in case you've worried
about that picture for two decades, you can sleep
easy now. Feel better? You signed my Elektra LP
cover that night and were most gracious....too many
artists would've been in a rotten mood based on the
nonexistent turnout. Not you. I put together a "best
of Essra" CD and I've been playing it at
work...people never fail to stop dead in their
tracks and ask "Who IS THAT??" Love you. Thanks for
30+ great years. Can't wait to get my hands on the
new stuff. |

Talk about weird... This festival is in my tiny,

boot... Good luck, if you're going :) |

Hmmmm....
Washed up like John Entwhistle of The Who, Leon
Russell, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Felix Cavaliere's
Rascals, Steppenwolf.... It's a shame that some must
be so short sighted as to realize there is no such
thing as washed up. I guess Beethoven, Glen Miller
and Chuck Berry are washed up too. Rock & Roll has
been the Golden Gate Bridge of generations, and it's
encouraging that folks in their 20's are realizing
it. Yeah, there's been some bad Rock & Roll- a lot
of it has made it's way to commercial classic rock
radio. Take a good listen at Itchycoo, you might
learn something. Someday, all of us we'll reach the
age we can no longer "perform". Washed up? Pass me
the Ivory Snow, dude(dudette?)! :-) Lighten up and
take advantage of it while you can. |

Essra,
it would be simply *incredible* if you could dig up
the old, fabled poem you wrote about the (original)
Woodstock festival, and read (or sing) it to the
crowd at the Itchycoo fest. I’m sure a lot of the
folks there would love to hear about your experience
there, as well as learn the inspiration for many
great works which stemmed from that historic place
in time. Too bad I only turned 4-years-old the week
of Woodstock, but it still would have been wonderful
to have met you then. Fortunately, I met you almost
30 years later. You are a lovely and talented
musician. Please continue to do what you do best for
as long as you can. I definitely intend to welcome
(all of) it with open arms, heart and ears.
Much love and peace to you and all your fans. I’m
glad to see a lot of the long lost ones coming out
of the darkness – even if they bring one or two
trolls along. Yours in music and enlightenment&ldots;.

Hey
Mr. or Ms. Troll:
What do you mean by "washed up?" If you mean that
these artists – many in their 40s and 50s – are
still on the road, performing their hits, making
people who crave *real* music happy, and not sitting
at home sulking and wondering why tastes in music
have changed (for the worst I might add), I think
they’re all doing a wonderful service to humankind.
"Washed up" would signify that these people are no
longer able to play, sing, write, or all perhaps all
three. The fact that they are all bonding together
to perform at this festival (and the admission
charge for three days is not too extreme&ldots;&ldots;..especially
since most of today’s "sheds" charge just about that
much for one ticket to one show) says a lot about
the popularity of the musical era that made these
artists popular. In my mind, it was one of the best,
if not the best, time for American-made music. By
the way, Essra Mohawk rocks. She's incredible. I
wish I lived in Tennessee so I could be there.
Cheers! |

Hello from Norway! This is actually yet another

resist posting here, I haven't heard any music

the tapes but it sounds like you're in the room with
me when I play it. Great job. It's wonderful to hear

Hi
Essra. For several years, I subscribed to Musician
magazine's cd sampler series, and on one volume of
their cd's, I fell in love with your song "The Work
is Never Done". At the time, I searched and searched
all my local record stores for your "Raindance" cd
so I could hear more, but had no luck. I recently
got a copy through Amazon.com, at last, and I like
it very much. In between, Chuck Carlino (hi Chuck)
introduced me to more of your music. He speaks of
you so often and so enthusiastically, I think you
must pay him. Through his contact, I spoke on the
phone once to Bernadette, who kindly sent me a copy
of The Secret Diva cd. You're a wonderful artist,
and I hope you continue to write and record for many
years. Best regards, Harold |

Hi
Essra,
I know you don't remember but around 1970 you played
a song at your NE philly house (parents) called "you
make me come to pieces"..it was great!! We dont
really know each other and only met for the day but
I'll never forget the song...I went around for years
telling people about the song but oddly somehow you
managed to be a "secret" diva...and few people had
heard of you...the grand piano, your voice, the
song..all sounded great..and now after reading your
biography its sort of amazing to learn about your
tremendous talent and achievement...as a wannabe
musician I really admire excellence and I heard it
that day in the Northeast.. I would love to get a
recording of that song or the album. Regards Brian |

Hi,
Essra,
The years sometimes separate. It's hard to reunite -
like you have to keep everything that's gone on in
between with you, which is a lot to carry. It's
great to see you more present in more ways, like
here on the Internet - and with a new album 'n' all.
The last I spoke with you was maybe ten years ago,
when I was in touch with Harve Mann. Where is he
now? I'm married and have two beautiful kids. If
you're ever in the L.A. area, give me a call. I'd
love to play harmonica with you again - even if for
only one jam - or just talk. |

After
meeting you last night and listening to you sing and
now reading your Bio I realize that I have always
KNOWN you. And it sounds to me like you are a victim
of "NO PR" as are a whole bunch of folks in the
Music Bizz. But you are very special ans God has
saved you for something, something that we as
mortals can't possibly understand. You are so
beautiful and open and filled with love for the
world. You are what most people would like to be but
can't be. You are very close to perfection and if at
all possible I will be at the Sutler on the 16th.
Thank you for being at Christine's party so that I
could meet and experience you. flash gordon |

Dear
Essra,
I first heard you perform at John & Peter's in New
Hope, sometime around 1975. Your music changed me. I
went back there to see you again, and also saw you
at the Bottom Line. I am so happy to see that you're
still performing and making records - I was
wondering what had happened to you. I still listen
regularly to the album with "New Skins for Old" and
"Full-Fledged Woman". You are a genius. If you plan
to perform in NYC soon (or even not-so-soon) I'd
love to know about it. It would be so wonderful to
hear you again after all these years. Nancy |

Just
returned from India a few days ago, and have to say
that having your music along helped immensely. You
know, this was my first opportunity to listen to
"Secret Diva" on headphones. The remixes are just
fabulous!! That's my kind of stereo. I don't
remember the original LP's being quite that well
imaged. Now I'm going to have to go back and check
them out again. India was a definite experience.
Hope all is well - I'm looking forward to seeing
[and wearing - proudly, I might add] the new shirts.

Isn¹t cyberspace wonderful!! I was thinking about

Hopefully you remember me from Phila. Married to
Toby, you and I met at the Windjammer often, you
liked my rings. I¹m so glad you¹re still ³truckin².
I always felt privileged to have experienced your
music and to vicariously share in your life. I¹m
very happy that your years have been productive .
I¹m living near San Francisco now . I have a home in
